Message from the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ)
Bird owner?
Did you know that it is prohibited to let your birds roam in an unfenced area?
The Regulation respecting the sanitary conditions of places where captive birds are kept, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, governs the keeping of domestic birds. Its purpose is to protect the health of domestic birds, such as chickens, against diseases that may be transmitted by wild birds or between domestic birds. Among other requirements, birds must be kept in a building or enclosure so that they cannot leave your property. They must not be given rainwater, stream water, or any other surface water to drink. Their water and feed must be protected to prevent contamination by migratory waterfowl.
