Notice to Non-Resident Property Owners – 2025 Municipal Elections

Right to vote

You own a building or business in the Township of Harrington, but your primary residence is in another municipality ?

You may be eligible to vote if, on or before September 18, 2025, you were:

    • The owner of a multi-unit residential building;
    • Co-owner of a cottage or second home;
    • Tenant of commercial premises.

To be eligible, you must be 18 years of age or older on election day and be a Canadian citizen on November 2, 2025. In addition, you must not have lost your right to vote due to guardianship or be deprived of your electoral rights on that date.

To exercise your right to vote, you must submit an application to be added to the municipal electoral list.

ATTENTION: If you have already submitted a entry, a power of attorney or an application to vote by mail, it remains VALID at all times and you do NOT need to take any further action.

HOW TO APPLY*

  • If you are the sole owner of a building or the sole occupant of a business establishment, complete the SMRC-9.2 form and send it to the Chief Electoral Officer at l.tremblay@harrington.ca.
  • If you are a co-owner of a building or co-occupant of a business establishment, designate one person from the group to be registered on the list and make sure to complete the SMRC-9.1 form and send it to the Chief Electoral Officer at l.tremblay@harrington.ca.

*An application for entry, a power of attorney or an application to vote by mail remains valid until replaced or withdrawn. Please contact the returning officer if you would like to replace or withdraw an existing application for entry, power of attorney or application to vote by mail.

Voting by Mail

The municipality allows you to vote by mail. To do so, you must complete the Request to Vote by Mail section on the back of form SMRC-9.1 or SMRC-9.2.

You must send the completed form to the Chief Electoral Officer at l.tremblay@harrington.ca. The registration application, proxy, or mail-in ballot application remains valid until it is replaced or withdrawn. If you wish to replace or withdraw an existing registration application, proxy, or mail-in ballot application, please contact the election chairperson.
